Jim Walker - Altor Risk Group

A new Aberdeen-headquartered company specialising in risk control, emergency response, crisis management and business continuity has been established by the founders of Rubicon Response Limited – the emergency response specialist acquired by Petrofac Training in 2005.

The formation of Altor Risk Group (Altor) has been led by Jim Walker, former Managing Director of Rubicon, who was also a Director of Petrofac Training for 2½ years.

The new company specialises in a number of areas including understanding and reviewing risks, defining major accident hazard scenarios, writing procedures, equipping response centres, providing training and running exercises.

As part of its expansion plans Altor has already acquired iON Risk Management (iON), a Dubai-based, specialist provider of crisis management and emergency response services set up by another Rubicon founder, Dominic Webb, in 2008.

Going forward Mr Webb will act as Altor’s International Business Unit Leader, and look to build on the impressive international client base previously established by iON.

Also joining Altor is former Grampian Police Inspector, Albert Thomson – another Rubicon co-founder – who previously worked with Mr Walker for nine years. Mr Thomson has been appointed as Altor’s Research and Develoment Team Leader.

The trio’s fellow Rubicon colleague, Ann Fotheringham, has also joined Altor and will be responsible for the Group’s administration in her role as Business Manager.

Altor Risk Group already has eight employees in place, along with a number of associates, and there are plans for this figure to significantly increase during the remainder of 2010 through further key appointments. The establishment of appropriate partnerships is also planned.

The company is currently based within Riverside House on Riverside Drive, Aberdeen, with its international office in Dubai.

Managing Director of Altor Risk Group, Jim Walker, believes exciting times lie ahead for the new company.

He said: “Ultimately what we as a company aim to achieve is to use our expertise and experience to help organisations understand and manage their risks to allow them to work safely and efficiently anywhere in the world.

“We have already brought together some of the most experienced, knowledgeable and forward thinking people in our industry within one company and will be announcing several further key appointments in the coming months.

“Going forward we will look to utilise our collective experience in the Oil & Gas industry and transfer our knowledge into the renewables and mining sectors, whilst building on previous and current business relationships with clients across the globe to grow the business on a worldwide level.

“The acquisition of iON has enabled us to establish a strong foothold in the international market and we are confident of securing a number of significant contracts with some major operators in the very near future.”

The range of services Altor provides includes emergency response, crisis and incident management, media and relative response, family liaison, oil spill response, scenario planning, security assessments and risk identification and reduction.
