Blueback Reservoir AS and Earthworks E&R report the signing of a joint software development agreement to integrate the MPSI Stochastic Seismic Inversion Technology onto the Petrel* seismic to simulation platform. The joint agreement brings together two leading technology companies. Earthworks provide state of the art pre- and post-stack deterministic and stochastic inversion technology and Blueback Reservoir provides world class expertise in Petrel plug-in development.

The new MPSI seismic inversion plug-in supports the following: • 3D A priori model building • Deterministic Inversion of all supported methods • Stochastic Inversion of all supported methods

The supported inversion methods are: • Single stack / Post stack seismic inversion • IP / IS pre-stack Simultaneous inversion • AI / GI pre-stack Simultaneous inversion • IP / IS / Rho pre-stack Simultaneous inversion

Using the Ocean* application development framework, the new plug-in is fully integrated with the familiar Petrel user interface, and will be available for download and installation from the Ocean Store in September 2010. The seismic inversion plug-in will cover workflows for improved reservoir characterization and validation of reservoir modeling results.

The new Petrel plug-in is available for demonstration at EAGE on both Blueback Reservoir's Booth No. 686 and Earthworks Booth No. 671.

Ashley Francis, Managing Director of Earthworks said, 'Using the expertise of Blueback Reservoir our groundbreaking MPSI inversion technology will now be developed as a plug-in to Petrel, the leading reservoir modeling platform. MPSI stochastic inversion has been used successfully on many projects for our clients over the last five years. With the development of MPSI for Petrel Ocean this technology will be available directly within the reservoir modelling environment.'

Paul Hovdenak, Software Portfolio Manager of Blueback Reservoir said,'The seismic inversion technology has matured over the last few years, and by developing an easy-to-use solution on the Petrel platform, the technology and benefits from the improved reservoir characterization will reach out to many more geoscientists in the industry.'
