Cairn Energy has appointed Ian Tyler as an independent non-executive director of the Company with immediate effect. Mr Tyler will also be appointed as a member of the Company's audit and remuneration committees.

Mr Tyler is currently non-executive chairman of Al Noor Hospitals Group plc, a non-executive director and chairman of the audit committee of Cable & Wireless Communications plc and a non-executive director of BAE Systems plc.

Mr Tyler was previously Chief Executive of Balfour Beatty PLC, a post he held from 2005 until March 2013. During his tenure in this role he took the company from being primarily a UK construction business to a global infrastructure services business, increasing revenue from £4.2 billion to £10.9 billion.
