Centrica Resources (Norge) AS, operator of production licence 470, has completed the drilling of wildcat well 6407/12-3. The well was drilled about 13 km southeast of the Draugen facility in the Norwegian Sea.

The primary exploration target of the well was to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Rogn formation). The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Garn and Ile formations).

The well is dry. No reservoir sandstone was encountered in the Rogn formation. Both the Garn and Ile formations had the expected reservoir quality, but were somewhat thinner than expected.

The well is the first exploration well in production licence 470, which was awarded in APA 2007. Centrica operate the licence with a 50% interest and Bayerngas Norge AS hold the remaining 50% equity.

Well 6407/12-3 was drilled to a vertical depth of 1950 metres below the sea surface, and was terminated in the Ile formation in the Middle Jurassic. Water depth at the site is 288 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 6407/12-3 was drilled by the West Alpha drilling facility, which will now proceed to the Alve field in the Norwegian Sea, where Statoil ASA is the operator, to drill the observation and production wells 6507/3-L-4 H and 6507/3-L-4 AH.
