Aberdeen-based Consafe Engineering Services have completed a contract, valued at more than £2 million, for the extension and refurbishment of the living quarters on Stena Drilling’s semi submersible unit, Stena Don.
Stena Don is a dynamically-positioned, harsh environment drilling, completion and workover vessel for worldwide operations, currently working in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
Phase one included manufacturing of office modules, gymnasium and enclosed stair tower at the company’s Tullos facility, the design of which was in accordance with Norwegian ‘NORSOK’ Regulations and verified by DNV.
The six modules together with a new calorifier were shipped to Olensvag, in Norway, where the phase two installation and hook-up was carried out, along with the refurbishment of existing areas to form nine new, two-man cabins.
Installation of the gymnasium directly under the helideck was a particular challenge, requiring the design and fabrication of a substantial 6.5 metre high temporary structure to facilitate the work, as well as the structural reconfiguring and bracing of the helideck.
Despite adverse weather conditions, a team of 50 Consafe personnel completed the work in 6 weeks.
Consafe is part of the McNulty Group, owned by Zoom Enterprises, a major and fast-growing Indian investment company with diverse interests.
