Tullow Oil has continued its successful advance across central and West Africa offshore Ghana’s West Cape Three Points license with the discovery of light oil columns.
The Mahogany-3 well passed through “significant light oil columns” in a target belew the Jubilee field and another much deeper zone. Some 33 metres of net pay were penetrated.
Company chief exec Aidan Heavey confirmed the finds “increased our expectations of the extent of the core of the (Jubilee) field."
Mahogany-3 explored away from the “strong seismic amplitudes” already hit and confirmed the extension of Jubilee to the southeast.
“Results of drilling, wireline logs and samples of reservoir fluid indicate that 16 metres of high quality stacked oil bearing sandstones have been encountered,” a statement said.
A target drilled by the Eirik Raude semi-submersible to over 4,000 m met 17 m of good quality oil bearing reservoir sandstones and “opens up further potential in the region”.
Operator Kosmos Energy (31 percent) shares West Cape 3 with Anadarko Petroleum (31 percent), Tullow (23 percent), E.O. Group (3.5 percent) and Sabre Oil & Gas (1.85 percent).
Tullow is “unit” and “technical” operator at Jubilee.
