Trendsetter has announced the completion of another successful project utilising the subsea hydraulic stimulation system known as STIM.

The latest project involved the use of the STIM system to conduct hydrate remediation and flowline decommissioning in the Gulf of Mexico. The flowline, which was 20 miles long and located in 4,800 feet of water, was believed to have multiple hydrate plugs which prevented the flushing and abandonment of the line in compliance with BSEE regulations.

Deployed from the M/V Island Venture, Trendsetter’s STIM system was used to conduct the remediation operations using a proprietary methodology developed in conjunction with alliance partners, Halliburton and CInnovations. The method utilises nitrogen generation systems at the surface and the STIM system subsea to boost fluids to surface and reduce the pressure at the hydrate, allowing for rapid disassociation. This method has been used now to conduct multiple remediation operations with 100% success. After remediating the hydrates and recovering 175 bbls of flowline content to surface, the flowline was then flushed clean and prepared for permanent abandonment.

The Offshore Services Alliance was formed to allow Trendsetter Engineering, CInnovations and Halliburton to leverage the companies’ strengths and capabilities with the goal of providing integrated and value added solutions for subsea well intervention and subsea inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) operations to offshore operators.
