EDF confirms the start up, in 2012, of the EPR reactor currently under construction at Flamanville in Normandy.
EDF and Bouygues have taken the necessary steps to manage the unforeseen events inherent to a project of this scope. It has therefore been decided to increase the number of dedicated civil engineering teams by an additional 1200 to 1500 people by the end of the year.
Given the problems encountered when the discharge service tunnel was excavated, EDF also decided last week to use a new tunnel digging technique by means of a “mole” in order to complete the operation within a timescale in line with the initial schedule.
Lastly, EDF has taken steps both internally and with its suppliers to improve the quality of supervision and control throughout the site.
