Fotech Solutions, the linear asset technology monitoring specialist, has been named as a founder member of the Fiber Optic Sensing Association (FOSA), a new trade association dedicated to educating the industry, government and public on the benefits of fiber optic sensing technology.

Fiber optic sensing technology, such as Fotech’s Distributed Acoustic Sensor (DAS), is already used today to monitor thousands of miles of pipelines, railways, international borders, critical infrastructure and facilities all across the globe.

According to a market research report by BCC Research, the global fiber optic sensors market should reach $3.2 billion 2021, reflecting a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.9% beginning in 2016.

Fotech’s VP Sales Americas and FOSA board member, Kent Wardley comments, “Fiber optic sensing technology can make a massive contribution to security, environmental protection and optimising infrastructure management. We want to put that potential under the spotlight, which is why Fotech has been at the forefront of creating FOSA.”

“It’s important to stress that FOSA is not just about educating others on the benefits of the technology. We also want to focus on encouraging continued innovation in the sector and for vendors like ourselves to keep pushing the technology forward and find new applications and additional value for fiber optic sensors”, says Chris Shannon, Fotech’s CEO.
