Fugro Robertson, in collaboration with optics pioneer Carl Zeiss, will introduce RoqSCAN™, a cutting edge, portable and rock properties analyzer at the 2011 American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Conference here April 10-13.
The RoqSCAN™ system analyzes wellbore cuttings in high resolution and generates fully intuitive, highly quantitative mineralogical and textural datasets within one hour of cuttings delivered to the RoqSCAN rig site unit.
For each sample, data provided include bulk mineralogy, lithology, mineral types and ratios, grain size, etc. – all measured against depth. For fracing unconventional wells, the data can be used to support the location of fracing stations for artificial reservoir stimulation.
For improved positioning of lateral wells, the data can be used to help keep the drill bit in its target zone. Similarly, for improved drilling management and safety performance, RoqSCAN’s datasets can facilitate decision making at the wellsite.
“RoqSCAN provides a step change in rock properties analysis,” said Dr. Guy Oliver, Fugro Robertson Director.” The concept of having instantaneous rock properties information based on real rock data is quite extraordinary.”
