While the Danish maritime focus is highly international, and highly competitive, they know well enough to maintain good relationships to their closest neighbours.

“Norway is one of the main markets for Denmark’s maritime equipment and service suppliers,” says Mark Lerche, head of the Danish Marine Group, in charge of the Danish pavilion at Nor-Shipping 2017. “Norwegian shipowners and shipyards value high-end quality solutions, products and services, which makes for a perfect match with Danish suppliers.”

He goes on to explain the foundation for friendship and strong business ties between the two Nordic neighbours: “Denmark and Norway have similar maritime profiles. Both countries are strong in the ocean economies, with shipping, fisheries, offshore energy and maritime equipment and services as important factors of our national economies. Innovative maritime solutions are on top of the political agenda in both countries.”

Lerche points out that both Norway and Denmark rank in the global top 10 of shipowning nations. “In the international shipping and shipbuilding industry we are known for delivering energy efficient operating profiles with a focus on technology development and cooperation.”

Nor-Shipping exhibition director Per Martin Tanggaard echoes these observations: “Once again we are very happy to welcome Denmark to Nor-Shipping. They are consistently among our largest collective exhibitors, and this reflects the strong ties and common interests that the two maritime countries share.”

As further proof of these strong maritime ties, Lerche relates that Denmark and Norway cooperated on a Scandinavian visit to the Indonesian ministries of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in late 2016. “This shows the unique attitude to cooperation and dialogue to create better solutions for all parties,” he says

Denmark will also reach out to their Finnish neighbours at Nor-Shipping, with a match-making event between Denmark and Finland taking place during the second day of the exhibition, May 31st at the Pavilion of Denmark lounge.

As to why companies choose gather on the Danish pavilion, Lerche offers a combination of common sense, and business sense:

“Exhibiting on the National Pavilion with Danish Marine Group lets companies focus on their main reason for being at Nor-Shipping: to discuss business with partners and gather as much market information as possible from the Norwegian shipping and shipbuilding market.”

Lerche and Danish Marine Group invite all visitors to Nor-Shipping to visit Hall T and get acquainted with their 160+ members, share in genuine Scandinavian hospitality, and be inspired by the decidedly Danish enthusiasm for a striking good deal.
