Well intervention specialist Interwell has successfully installed and retrieved its award-winning expandable junk catcher add-on (EJCA) in multiple wells in a Statoil operated field in the Norwegian Continental Shelf, resulting in considerable cost and time savings for the operator.

Interwell’s technology was used as part of an on-going campaign to remove and replace old Christmas trees.

During this type of intervention, scale can present challenges in setting and retrieving barrier plugs. Under traditional procedures, separate junk baskets are run on top of the plug to catch falling debris. The baskets have to be set and retrieved by additional runs resulting in significant time consumption and risks of the scale being scraped from the tubing wall and pushed on top of the plug when running in hole.
