The innovative KONGSBERG Information Management System (K-IMS) has now had over 100 installations for vessel owners and charterers in the LNG sector. The milestone represents a significant breakthrough for KONGSBERG and the K-IMS product within the LNG market and demonstrates the growing acceptance of the system’s innovative approach to data-sharing for LNG vessel and fleet operations.

As interest in data-sharing for operational efficiency grows in the LNG sector, KONGSBERG has conducted several successful customer trials to show the capabilities and benefits of integrating K-IMS in the last year. K-IMS is designed to enable continuous access to data both on board and ashore through an interactive web portal solution. The system unites all data logging and communication into a single, secure and maintainable solution, giving the fleet owner complete control of information flow and security.

The K-IMS web portal provides visualisation of the data in a secured and controlled fashion, outside of the on board control domain. It features a set of self-service tools for live or post analyses of data, presentation and reporting. These can be expanded further with predefined KONGSBERG applications, with e.g., focus on LNG cargo and the complex process plant that manages it, as well as vessel performance and hull condition monitoring.

While the K-IMS web portal is available through on board ship networks and at control centres ashore, users can also access the service through mobile devices attached to a network were the K-IMS portal is available, such as a ship’s Wi-Fi and office networks, or via VPN. This flexible approach ensures that the vital data collected and stored by K-IMS is always securely available to those who need it.

“The LNG market has taken a lead in using data to secure safer and more efficient operations on board,” says Stene Førsund, Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing, Kongsberg Maritime. “K-IMS helps to transform the valuable data generated by sensor and control systems into knowledge, helping ship owners to improve and optimise operations, and make fact based decisions to manage single vessels and entire fleets.”
