Emerson - Roxar RMS 2010

Emerson Process Management will donate a number of licenses of its Roxar RMS reservoir modeling software to two of Thailand’s leading universities in the fields of petroleum and geology engineering - Chulalongkorn and Chiang Mai Universities. The donations are part of comprehensive research and education agreements between Emerson and the two universities and leverage the reputation for innovation of Roxar solutions and their track record of increasing oil & gas production offshore Norway, in the North Sea as a whole, and globally.

Signing of the agreements took place today at the Grand Hyatt Erewan Hotel in Bangkok in the presence of the Norwegian Ambassador to Thailand, Ms Katja Nordgaard; over 120 members of the Geological Society of Thailand (GST); representatives from PTTEP, a subsidiary of Thailand’s national oil and gas company PTT; and distinguished guests, executives and students from the two universities.

Under the agreements, students at the two universities will have access to the broad portfolio of Roxar RMS integrated software modules, including mapping, reservoir modeling, well planning, reservoir simulation and uncertainty modeling tools. Users will be able to build models for any reservoir, estimate reserves, plan wells and simulate past and future production. As part of the agreement, Emerson will also provide training and internships to students within their reservoir management teams.

Ordin Husa, Managing Director of Emerson’s Roxar Software Solutions said, “With Asia Pacific operators facing ever more complex fields and geologies as well as the pressing need to maximize investment returns, it is essential that they create accurate reservoir models that generate vital information on oil in place and that can handle all types of geologies. It’s through investing in the petroleum engineers of the future that we can ensure that the Asia Pacific oil and gas industry has the right skills and knowledge to meet these challenges going forward. We are delighted to be teaming up with Chulalongkorn and Chiang Mai Universities at a time when the Thai oil and gas sector continues to grow. The partnership today is also reaffirmation of the growing levels of cooperation in the oil & gas sector between Thailand and Norway in the fields of education, research, services and technology sharing.”

Chulalongkorn University is Thailand’s oldest university and has 19 faculties and institutes including the Petroleum and Petrochemical College. Chiang Mai University was the first institute of higher education in Northern Thailand and is the country’s first provincial university with graduate diploma programs in geology.
