Construction company Mansell has recently completed two major building projects for Houston-headquartered international oil and gas companies in Aberdeen.
The company has put the finishing touches to a contract – worth around £3.8million – to construct a new research and development centre for specialist global oilfield production chemicals firm, Champion Technologies, in the city’s Altens area.
The innovative building, which has become Champion’s global centre of excellence for scale technology, covers an area of 1850 square meters and utilises a host of renewable technologies.
The environmentally friendly building was designed to reduce energy consumption and enhance the use of natural light and ventilation, with the base’s atrium featuring tall, north-facing and short, shaded south-facing windows to ensure maximum daylight with minimal direct glare.
Also, all rainwater at the facility is collected to supply the building’s grey water requirements, whilst hot water is heated by a solar panel.
Mansell also recently concluded work on a two storey office and dining facility for Hunting Energy Services, at the company’s existing operations centre at Fordoun, south of Aberdeen, which services the North Sea, Europe and West Africa.
The project involved the construction of offices, meeting rooms, computer server room and a kitchen area in the upper level at the site, which sits on a former WWII airfield. The ground floor of the building consists of a plant room and mess facilities for the site operatives and incorporates shower and changing areas.
