Marlink-2

Marlink launches Call@SEA at this year's SMM. The new service enables passengers and crew to use their own GSM-enabled mobile phones onboard, providing access to the same service quality at sea as they receive on land.

"Accessibility and convenience have become increasingly important factors for passengers and crew. Providing GSM via the vessel's VSAT system, our new Call@SEA service offers the capability for passengers and crew to use their own handset onboard the vessel in the same way that they would at home, which is very convenient for users. More people now expect to be able to stay connected wherever they are located. Providing easy-to-use and convenient communications onboard can help vessel operators improve customer satisfaction as well as boost crew morale," comments Tore Morten Olsen, CEO, Marlink.

Marlink's new Call@SEA service provides GSM onboard the vessel, enabling passengers and crew to call and text as they would ashore. Users can either utilize their own existing mobile subscription or an affordable onboard prepaid subscription. For passengers and crew using their own personal subscriptions, the service is delivered, priced and charged by the mobile operator they use ashore.

Call@SEA also provides vessel operators with a direct channel to locally communicate with all users of the onboard GSM network. The channel can be used by vessel operators for applications such as marketing to passengers and communicating with crew. Using software provided by the Call@SEA service, vessel operators are able to send SMS messages to all users connected to the onboard GSM network, enabling fast and efficient communication with passengers and crew.

Marlink introduces the new Call@SEA service to its portfolio of Value Added Services which are available to all new and existing customers of the company's VSAT solutions. Olsen adds, "The introduction of Call@SEA to our comprehensive portfolio enables us to continue to offer high-quality solutions which can be customised to meet any specification or budget."
