Marlink, the world's largest provider of maritime satellite communications, has recently signed a new five year agreement with Singapore-based offshore drilling company ABAN Singapore Pte Ltd. As part of the new contract, Marlink will install Dual Stabilized always-on, reliable connectivity and significantly higher bandwidth.

Marlink's Sealink(T) solution will enable increased efficiency of a multitude of critical offshore applications including real-time data management and data sharing with sites on land. Larry Austin, Operations Manager, ABAN Singapore Pte Ltd, comments: "The installation of Sealink(T) VSAT offers a huge improvement in communications compared with what is traditionally available on Jack-up rigs. We will have access to always-on bandwidth even during transport to the oil field or between regions, enabling a much more efficient use of deployment time as communications work can be carried out on-route to the new location."

Providing Ku-band and C-band VSAT services, Sealink(T) is Marlink's core solution for the maritime market and can be tailored to meet individual customer requirements. In the case of ABAN, Sealink(T) has been customized to provide high bandwidth over dedicated LAN, so that rig operators can take full advantage of high quality communications services. The Dual Stabilized antenna system will enable ABAN to simplify procurement and maintenance procedures.

ABAN Singapore Pte Ltd. is a leading offshore drilling services company in Asia catering to the exploration and production needs of the worldwide oil and gas industry. The company's expanding fleet of rigs and drill ships as well as its highly experienced management team help meet the exacting standards of the industry as well as to tackle the technically challenging and rigorous conditions of offshore oil exploration.

"VSAT has become a vital tool for the offshore oil & gas industry over the past decade, where instant collaboration with engineers and suppliers on land within the 'intelligent oilfield' environment can greatly improve efficiency and profitability. Sealink(T) is chosen because of the bandwidth and reliability it offers, in addition to predictable costs and more flexibility for the users," says Tore Morten Olsen, CEO, Marlink.
