Marlink supplies VSAT to Songa Offshore

Marlink, the global provider of maritime satellite communications, has recently signed a new contract with offshore drilling specialist, Songa Offshore. As part of the new agreement Marlink will deliver and install its Sealink™ C-band VSAT services on Songa’s semi-submersible rigs including ‘SONGA ECLIPSE’, a 6th generation Friede & Goldman ExD ultra deep-water rig, providing each drilling rig with 1024 Kbps bandwidth to support a range of business critical applications.

“With our rigs being at the forefront of the industry in terms of innovation and technological development, it’s imperative that we have access to the highest quality connectivity to ensure the efficiency and safety of each platform. Marlink has consistently demonstrated commitment and dedication to satisfying our requirements for global satellite connectivity and has been able to customise a communications package to meet our specific needs,” comments Trond Christensen, Chief Operating Officer, Songa Offshore.

Throughout the provision of its services to Songa Offshore, Marlink will work closely with Viking Innovations, an IT service provider to the global offshore market. Marlink’s on-going collaboration with the company will enable Songa Offshore to benefit from an extensive range of advanced satellite communications and network services, including VoIP telephony for local dialling tones virtually anywhere, specialised networking aboard each rig, email and storage solutions and desktop support.

Marlink’s CEO Tore Morten comments: “I am delighted to announce our new contract with Songa Offshore, which is testament to our strong capability in the oil and offshore market. Through our close collaboration with Viking Innovations, we are able to develop satellite communications and IT service packages which best fit the needs of customers such as Songa Offshore, to fully support the digital oilfield.”
