The 8th edition of the SPE/IADC Middle East Drilling Technology Conference and Exhibition (MEDT), a professional event on the latest drilling technologies, challenges, and solutions will be held 24–26 October 2011, in Muscat, Oman. MEDT, which is co-organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) will feature debates and discussions on the suggested technologies, improvements, and changes required to address the drilling and exploration challenges faced in the Middle East.
The theme of the event this year “Major Improvements: What Must We Do Differently” will be addressed during the Executive Plenary Session by the technical director of Petroleum Development Oman, the President EH Operations of Baker Hughes, the Group CEO of MB Petroleum Services, the General Manager of Drilling and Workover of Saudi Aramco, and the President Middle East and North Africa Region of Weatherford.
This three-day event is designed to provide drilling, HSE and production professionals with the latest approaches and processes for meeting current drilling challenges. The technical programme will highlight numerous cutting-edge presentations pertaining to key drilling and exploration topics such as HSE, advanced bit applications, gas wells, well stability, casing while drilling, directional drilling, drilling rigs and equipment, underbalanced drilling, completions and workover, well control challenges, and much more.
MEDT’s technical programme also offers various sessions focusing on other non-technical yet drilling related matters; such as the importance of the coordination and collaboration between NOCs, IOCs, and service providers, the different learnings and lessons available to oil and gas professionals from other industries and the best process to allow for cross-sector technology transfer.
With about 500 drilling professionals from the region and beyond and more than 30 specialised exhibitors expected to participate, MEDT is sure to be one of the most focused and best drilling events in the region.
Poster sessions, training courses, a special keynote session, and numerous networking opportunities and social events will complete the 2011 MEDT conference programme.
