Offshore Solutions B.V. (OSBV)

Offshore Solutions B.V. (OSBV), the joint venture between AMEC and Cofely Nederland N.V., has announced another significant achievement in the operation of the Offshore Access System (OAS*).

Installed on the GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. (GSEPN) chartered vessel, REM Mermaid, the OAS has successfully achieved 2,500 operational connections. This is the third operational OAS in the Southern North Sea and during its operational life so far has also facilitated the safe transfer of 22,000 personnel, whilst reaching two-and-a-half years without any lost time incidents (LTIs). During this time the OAS has regularly transferred personnel in sea states of more than 3Hs (significant wave height).

The REM Mermaid is a multi purpose supply vessel, equipped with a class two dynamic positioning system (guaranteeing the ship’s stable position); it is ideally suited to support the OAS.

OSBV’s managing director, Lindsay Young, said: “This milestone is a further major achievement for Offshore Solutions and sees the OAS continue to build its reputation in the safe and efficient transfer of personnel.

“To accomplish 2,500 connections without any lost time incidents proves that our step changing technology continues to be one of the most proficient options for accessing offshore installations, improving manpower availability on offshore installations.

“The OAS installed on the REM Mermaid has been in continual use since February 2009, demonstrating the competence of our personnel and the robustness and reliability of our system. We are delighted to have been involved in the safe transfer of thousands of people particularly in such a challenging marine environment.”

Ruud Zoon, managing director for GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. adds: “This system has more than lived up to our expectations and has proven to be a safe way of working; marine access is now part of our standard operations.”
