Operations begin at new E.ON gas power plant in Italy

After only two years of construction, E.ON today began operations at its new gas power plant, Livorno Ferraris in Northern Italy. The environmentally friendly power plant, with a 57 percent rate of efficiency is one of the world’s most efficient plants. With an installed capacity of 800 Megawatts, Livorno Ferraris produces approximately five billion KWh of electricity per year. This amount is sufficient to supply more than one million homes with electricity. The total cost of investment was EUR400 million.

“With our new gas power plant Livorno Ferraris, we are emphasising that we want to be a reliable, long-term partner for Italy’s energy supply and that we see ourselves in a new, stronger role in this respect. Following the recently completed takeover of Endesa Italia, as a result of which we are now active at all the main stages of the value chain, the construction of this new power plant further strengthens our competitive position in power production in Italy”, said E.ON Chief Executive Officer Wulf H. Bernotat.

The gas power plant Livorno Ferraris is the first of 25 new power plant projects that E.ON currently plans to build worldwide. From 2007 to 2010, E.ON will invest EUR63 billion worldwide, around EUR32 billion will be invested in conventional power generation and EUR6 billion will be invested specifically in renewables.
