Fluor Corporation-2

Fluor Corporation says that RasGas Company Limited has recently recognized the firm for its outstanding safety record for its work on the RL 3 Common Offplot Projects in Ras Laffan City, Qatar. Fluor was formally recognized for its health, safety and environment (HSE) milestone of more than 45 million incident-free work hours along with other firms associated with the overall RasGas Phase 2 Onshore Expansion Project. Fluor began its $1.5 billion EPCM project scope in November 2005.

The overall RasGas Phase 2 Onshore Expansion Project includes the development of two large liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing trains—trains 6 and 7—for Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (RL 3), a joint venture company between Qatar Petroleum (70 percent) and ExxonMobil RasGas Inc. (30 percent). The expansion also includes a separate sales gas facility—Al Khaleej Gas Phase 2 Project (AKG-2).

RasGas' executive management team, including CEO and Managing Director Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, recently presented awards to the expansion project's key contractors and subcontractors to celebrate the outstanding performance over the past year. “Across the various project sites, we expended a staggering 121 million total work hours in 2008 and we managed to do this with truly outstanding, world-class safety performance,” Al Mohannadi said. “Each and every person working in the RasGas Expansion Phase 2 teams and Common Offplot Projects, including all our contractors and subcontractors, contributed to this remarkable achievement and should feel incredibly proud of his efforts.”

“HSE issues are central to Fluor’s operating philosophy,” said Jim Heavner, senior vice president, Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group. “Our 950 safe work days without a lost-time incident is representative of this core tenet and commitment for all of our projects worldwide.”

Fluor’s engineering, procurement and construction management scope for the common offplot facilities includes utilities, tanks and all equipment required to enable the storage and loading operations supporting numerous new projects in Ras Laffan City.
