Saipem and NTT DATA have signed a cooperation agreement with a view to prototyping and implementing new solutions in Saipem yards and on Saipem vessels.

Saipem and NTT DATA will collaborate in the application of technologies such as wearable devices, Internet of Things, cyber security, and virtual and augmented reality, with the aim of improving efficiency and developing new business opportunities for the clients of the Italian contracting company, while maximising reciprocal excellences.

In 2016, NTT DATA and Saipem-Innovation Factory collaborated on the “Digital Site” project at Saipem’s Arbatax yard in Sardinia, where the use of innovative devices for the health and safety of workers, among which NTTS DATA’s Hitoe smart shirt, was experimented.

Stefano Cao, Saipem CEO, comments, “This collaboration fits neatly into the process of transformative innovation and opening to the ecosystem undertaken by Saipem. Synergy with a partner such as NTT DATA bolsters our network of collaborations in Italy and at the same time enriches the company’s competencies in the digital field.”

“We are pleased to share our vision through concrete projects with global partners of Saipem’s prestige. High quality Italian engineering and Japanese innovation will combine to bring added value to Saipem’s clients,” says Walter Ruffinoni, CEO of NTT DATA Italia. “The application of open innovation models allows ideas to flow and circulate in a completely new way. An ecosystem in which a business is connected to the best technological partners, to universities and to start-ups, facilitates the creation of value and constitutes a vital element for those companies looking towards the future.”
