A project to construct an Upstream Development Training Center (UPDC) in Dhahran was launched recently, with the signing of a construction contract by Saudi Aramco and a local construction contractor, the International Center Company for Commerce Contracting (ICC).

The project is designed to enhance company training facilities. The 13,000 square-meter training center is for training geoscientists and petroleum engineers and will consist of four stories. It will include simulator areas with 3D visualization equipment, classrooms, lecture theaters, break-out rooms, office and display areas and a library.

The objectives of the center are to:

Provide tools for technologically focused training of upstream professionals. Allow for fast-track training programs to meet the company’s increasing demand for upstream professionals. Provide a means to bridge the gap between traditional theoretical classroom training and technology-focused professional development. Signing Nov. 30 on behalf of Saudi Aramco was Majid Y. Al-Mugla, executive director of Project Management, and Mohammed A. Al-Juwair, general manager of Southern Area Project Management. ICC board member Rasheed Al-Rasheed, managing director Riad Mourtada and Eastern Province general manager Cal Murad expressed their gratitude at being entrusted with the task.

They assured Al-Mugla and Al-Juwair that they would meet Saudi Aramco’s expectations of quality, schedule and budget.

ICC has completed its required survey and mobilization, and the project is slated for completion by July 2010.
