SGS opens lab in China

In May of 2013, SGS opened its state-of-the-art laboratory for drilling equipment inspection (DEI) services in the Tanggu district of Tianjin, China.

This new lab offers the highest levels of advanced testing methods in compliance with DS-1, NS-2 and API standards. Professional and qualified inspectors, trained by experts from SGS Australia and awarded DS-1 certificates after examination, have access to advanced equipment and perform gauge inspections using electro magnetic inspection (EMI) units, ultrasonic testing (UT) wall thickness gauge, VT endoscope, portable magnetic particle testing (MPI), pit endoscope, lead gauge, profile gauge, OD/ID gauge, black-light equipment, etc.

Drilling equipment inspection services are used in the oil and gas industry upstream to inspect drill string, including drill pipes, bottom hole assembly (BHA), top drive, elevators and slips and to test tubing and casing (OCTG). Inspections implement highly-advanced testing methods such as electro-magnetic inspection (EMI), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), liquid penetrant inspection (LPI), ultrasonic inspection (UT) as well as dimension and visual inspection.
