Nor-Shipping will be playing host to a diverse range of speakers this year, mixing high level maritime business insights with political perspectives, thought leadership and game-changing innovation. In the latest announcement from Nor-Shipping, taking place across a series of venues in Oslo and Lillestrøm from 30 May to 2 June, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, former Chair of the African Union Commission, Josephine Teo from the Singapore Government, and Yee Yang Chien, President & CEO MISC Berhard have been confirmed as speakers.

“We’re looking to achieve something totally different within the context of this industry,” comments Nor-Shipping Director Birgit Liodden. “By bringing together high ranking politicians with captains of industry and established global thought leaders we can give our delegates a joined up vision of the world today, and the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.

“Our speakers will open a door of understanding in their respective fields, using their unique experience and expertise to deliver takeaways that, quite simply, are not available anywhere else. It’s so exciting to see our varied programme of conferences, debates and discussions take shape, and equally thrilling to imagine how they will connect, impact upon and inspire our audiences.”

Dlamini-Zuma, the first woman to hold the position of Chairperson of the AU Commission, and Teo, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport and Foreign Affairs, will help delegates get under the skin of two of Nor-Shipping’s designated hotspots this year (Africa and Asia, Brazil is the other ‘one to watch’), giving unique market and political perspectives. Meanwhile Yee Yang Chien, one of shipping’s most respected executives, brings business authority, with a keen understanding of finance, mergers and acquisitions, and the wider industrialisation of the ocean space.

The latest names join a speaker list that already includes Leif O. Høegh, Chairman of Höegh Autoliners, Mike Utsler, COO Woodside Energy, Elisabeth Grieg, co-owner of the Grieg Group and CEO of Grieg International AS, Rashpal Bhatti, VP Freight at BHP Billiton, Peter Justesen, Chief Shipping Officer at Engie, global thought leaders Tony Seba and Parag Khanna, and Peggy Liu, Chairperson of Joint US-CHINA Collaboration on Clean Energy (JUCCCE), amongst other contributors.

“We’re mixing the programme of speakers so that the very sharpest minds, from both inside and outside the industry, can share the same stages, but very different insights,” Liodden adds.

“The world is changing fast, and the rate of development accelerating everyday. Shipping needs to keep pace with that if it is to have a successful, sustainable and bright future. To do that we need to be inclusive, open and ready to accept a broad mix of influence, inspiration and wisdom. That’s what we’re working towards at Nor-Shipping, and we’re delighted so many respected individuals share our vision.”

More names will be added to the speaker programme in the weeks leading up to Nor-Shipping 2017.

This year’s event week is expected to attract around 35,000 visitors, with almost 1,000 of the world’s leading maritime companies showcasing products and services to the industry, future talent and shipping value chain stakeholders.
