Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd in South Korea has handed two drilling-equipment contracts worth a combined $260 million to Norway-based Aker Solutions.
The twin order for business Aker MH near Kristiansand in southern Norway entails engineering, equipment deliveries and commissioning services.
Aker Solutions executive VP Mads Andersen said the drill ship market is “booming”, as evidenced by Brazilian drilling contractor Odebrecht’s two-vessel commission.
The drill ships are due off the slips in early 2011.
The order marks continued Aker strength in the delivery of drilling equipment for rigs and drill ships in Asia.
