ExxonMobil Confirms Approval of Kashagan Development Plan-Spotlight

Aker Solutions has, in joint venture with CB&I and WorleyParsons, received a contract for the front-end engineering and design, or FEED, for Phase II of the full-field development of the Kashagan oil field in Kazakhstan, one of the world's largest, in a job worth $135 million.

"This contract demonstrates our competitive strengths within offshore technology in environmentally sensitive areas, harsh climate conditions as well as international contracting with a high level of local content," a statement trumpeted Thursday.

The scope of Phase II entails the FEED for both onshore and offshore facilities and pipelines, options for early works, detail engineering, procurement services, technical assistance, plus design and system integrity. Under the deal, Kazakhstan partners can opt for Aker Solutions FEED local oil fields Aktote, Kairan and Kalamkas.

Aker Solutions started design engineering work in November, after a letter of intent, and expects to finish up in the first quarter of 2010. With options, the order could go eight years.

Aker Solutions's is 30-percent partner in joint venture company K-WAC Ltd. with WorleyParsons Europe Ltd (45 percent),CB&I UK Ltd (25 percent).

Aker Solutions and WorleyParsons are still doing Phase 1 of the "experimental" Kashagan Project involving detailed design, fabrication and hook-up.
