Offshore engineering conglomerate Aker Solutions has struck up a deal with France-based chemicals company Arkema for the marketing of its proprietary PVC process design.

Aker will be able to call on Arkema technology and people when bidding for process design, engineering and construction jobs, it was understood Friday.

The terms of the cooperation agreement suggest Aker Solutions will help those wanting to license the PVC technology.

Aker Process BV is a legal entity involved in the Memorandum of Understanding with Arkema.

PVC, or polyvynilchloride, is a top revenue-generating polymer found in many rubber products, including plastic pipes and building coverings. It has been controversial in Norway when trace elements have turned up in the rain coats of Norwegian children.
