The deadline is fast approaching for energy companies to enter the first annual Energy North Awards, and the organisers have been impressed by the number of applications to date.

The awards have been created by Invergordon-based Energy North, formerly North Scotland Industries Group, and recognise the contribution to developing the energy industry in the Highlands and Islands remade by suppliers, brokers, product manufacturers, experts and consultants working in the oil and gas, fossil based energy, renewables and the nuclear industries.

The deadline for entries is Friday September 2 and companies and individuals operating in the Highlands and Islands are invited to enter. The award categories are:

• Best Oil & Gas Industry Service Supplier

• Best Subsea Industry Service Supplier

• Best Renewable Energy – Onshore

• Best Renewable Energy – Offshore

• Best Service Supply

• Best Export Award

• Best Pioneer Award

• Energy North Ambassador Award

The inaugural black tie ceremony will be held at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on Thursday 29th September 2011.

Energy North chief executive Ian Couper said: “We have been delighted so far with the response we have had to the awards, and we have had some extremely high calibre entries already. I would urge any individual or organisation that is thinking of entering to make sure they don’t leave it too late.

“The energy sector in this part of the world has much to be proud of, and I’ve been reminded of that by reviewing just some of the entries we have had so far. The Energy North awards give us all the platform to celebrate those achievements across a broad range of sectors, to ensure those many people and companies who are really doing an excellent job get the broader recognition they deserve.

“If there is a person, project, technology or business which you think should be recognised then please nominate them – but be quick!”
