BP in Angola has awarded Dubai-based SeaBird Exploration an “ocean bottom nodes” survey job in the deepwater Green Canyon blocks, the Gulf of Mexico.
Early in 2009, two “seismic” survey ships will work in waters up to 2,300 metres deep.
Seabird’s specialist ship Hugin Explorer and Kondor Explorer will earn up to $200,000 a day and $65,000/d for three months.
SeaBird chief exec Tim Isden said after a current contract with Total and the pending contract with BP, yet another oil major awaits the use of Seabird’s 4C/4D reservoir imaging equipment.
“We have experienced a massive increase in interest for our node technology after … the Total Angola contract,” Isden said.
