Italian utility Enel has won environmental approval to start building the Porto Empedocle plant for liquefied natural gas, or LNG, news agency Reuters has reported.
A ministerial sub-committee gave the go-ahead, although a full Environment Minister panel will present its findings Friday, when an Enel hydrogen plant is unveiled near Venice.
The eight-billion-cubic metre plant is one of about a half-dozen LNG projects in Italy which have been under review by Italian regulators. Livorno LNG and Brindisi LNG are the latest to have made headlines.
An exhaustive run-down of LNG projects advancing toward production appears in the April issue of Scandoil.com affiliate Scandinavian Oil-Gas Magazine.
