Pioneer Natural Resources Co. and Italian oil company Eni are on their way to producing plateau production of 20,000 barrels of oil per day from the 90-million-barrel Oooguruk oilfield in Alaska.
The shallow Oooguruk, in just five feet of water, is 250 kilometres southeast of Barrow offshore the North Slope of Alaska in the Beaufort Sea. The field is producing from atop a gravel island which is also used as a drill pad.
The production is Eni’s first in Alaska which offers “great potential”. Eni, in Norway, is planning a second offshore arctic field at Goliat.
Eni recently sanctioned the development of its wholly owned Nikaitchuq oil field 25 km east of Oooguruk, its first operated project in the region.
