Rig owner Northern Offshore Ltd. has put in an order with management software maker Star Information Systems to put the supplier’s integrated ship, rig and fleet oversight application aboard all its jack-up drill rigs.

Northern hopes to gain better control of its fleet maintenance, safety systems, documents and procurement by applying the a full suite of software for its five rigs.

The rigs’ maintenance histories will be inputted into the STAR IPS system run by Northern in Aberdeen, when a Maersk Oil and Gas contract runs out.

SIS put its Star system on the rig Energy Exerter in May followed by training on the software. The rig is now in the Pechora Sea offshore northern Russia.

Northern’s other rigs will all re-equip by 2010. The company has moved quickly to purchase rigs from Maersk and Transocean.
