Schlumberger at Icota event

Schlumberger’s Live™ Digital Slickline Services Technology will be the focus of the first lunch and learn session of the year, hosted by leading oil and gas industry body the Intervention & Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) European Chapter next week (Tuesday).

Matthew Billingham, global perforating and remedial services domain champion at Schlumberger, and the 2011 winner of ICoTA Europe’s coveted Innovation Award, will discuss the benefits such technology has brought to market since its launch at the ICoTA/SPE Coiled Tubing and Well Intervention Conference in the US in April last year.

Mr Billingham will present this innovative technology, which provides a platform for advanced slickline services delivering two-way digital communications between the bottom-hole tools and surface.

Coupled with an extensive suite of purpose-built, downhole modules, the LIVE technology enables tool and well information, such as head tension, tool deviation, and shock, plus gamma ray, CCL, pressure and temperature to be measured and transmitted to the surface in real time, greatly enhancing and expanding slickline operational capabilities. The tools complement a wider portfolio that helps to deliver an increased level of quality, safety and efficiency.

Case histories will also be discussed outlining perforating and plug setting services using Live™ Digital Slickline.

The lunch, which will be held at The Marcliffe at Pitfodels Hotel on Tuesday, January 17, will run from 11.45am to 1.45pm. It is the first in a series of events being held by ICoTA Europe this year, leading up to the 18th European Well Intervention Roundtable in November.

ICoTA Europe chairman, Rob Grassick, said: “As the global economy embarks on a tentative recovery, businesses in all sectors are under great pressure to innovate. This is no different for the oil and gas industry.

“With the maturing reserves of the UKCS, and more challenging exploratory conditions worldwide, we have to ensure we stay innovative in order to help satisfy rising global energy demand, maximising sources of sustainable energy wherever possible.

“ICoTA Europe and its events have a key role to play in stimulating healthy debate. They are a way of sharing knowledge and information and will ensure that we stay competitive and retain our reputation as a region that is at the forefront of technological advancement. These events are also a great way to network with some of the leading figures in the European intervention and coiled tubing industry.

“I expect to see a healthy turnout and, as always, would be delighted to welcome new members, and ideas to the table.”
