Marlink has recently entered into a new 5-year contract with Scorpio Ship Management s.a.m., the technical arm of the Scorpio Group. As part of the new agreement, Marlink will deliver, install and operate its cutting-edge WaveCall(TM) VSAT solution aboard 17 vessels, providing high-quality, reliable connectivity to support a wide range of applications including vessel management and crew welfare.
"Our vessels often operate in remote locations around the world so the integration of Marlink's WaveCall(TM) solution is critical to ensure the provision of reliable and high quality bandwidth aboard for continuous communication between our vessels and offices ashore," comments Francesco Bellusci, General Manager, Scorpio Ship Management. "Marlink has proven to offer exceptional flexibility, with a full portfolio of VSAT, FleetBroadband and Iridium satellite communications solutions which have been packaged together to satisfy our specific requirements."
Marlink's WaveCall(TM) solution will provide each Scorpio vessel with 128 Kbps to 1024 Kbps for shore-to-vessel communications and 128 Kbps to 256 Kbps for vessel-to-shore communications. Each tanker will have access to 1 data and 2 voice lines for business administration and crew use. In addition, Marlink will supply FleetBroadband 250 and Iridium services to Scorpio to ensure further reliability and redundancy of the communications services aboard, including during emergency.
Tore Morten Olsen, CEO, Marlink, comments: "WaveCall(TM) offers a cost-effective VSAT service to industries such as maritime transportation which often have a high focus on costs. Our latest contract with Scorpio is testament to our capability to provide a wide range of satellite communications solutions to ensure reliable and flexible connectivity is available. This will improve business efficiency in what is a challenging operational environment."
