U.K. offshore workers, U.S. steelworkers unite

U.K. union Unite and its two million members are preparing to declare a merger with United Steelworkers of the United States and Canada, an organization of about a million.

Thomson-Financial, citing a story in the The Sunday Telegraph, reported Unite would choose a July day in Las Vegas to make its announcement. Unite represents offshore workers in the United Kingdom and giant supplier group Rolls-Royce.

Scandoil.com could not confirm the report on Monday, which is the U.K. Bank Holiday.
