Norway’s Petroleum and Energy Minister Terje Riis-Johansen says that eight research centres have been named Centres for Environment-Friendly Energy Research (CEER). Statkraft is involved in five of the chosen centres, and has undertaken to provide both funding and expertise.
“We are very pleased that five of the research centres in which we are involved have been named Centres for Environment-Friendly Energy Research. Investment in R&D is vital if Statkraft is to meet the world’s need for pure energy,” says Statkraft’s SVP Innovation Sverre Gotaas.
Among the research projects that Statkraft is involved in are the development of offshore wind power technology, carbon capture and storage, bioenergy and environment-friendly design.
Statkraft considers R&D to be a strategic tool to increase value creation and strengthen its core business activities. During the period 2009-2011 Statkraft expects to invest around NOK 500 million in a variety of R&D programmes, projects and schemes.
