Aker Barents

Statoil Petroleum AS has been granted consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 7220/5-1 in the Barents Sea with the Aker Barents mobile facility.

The well is an appraisal well that is part of the assessment of the Skrugard field that has been discovered in the adjacent block 7220/8, production licence 532. The well is located 200 km from the nearest point onshore, which is Ingøya in Finnmark County and 210 km NNW from Hammerfest. The geographical coordinates are.

■ 72º 31' 00.78' N ■ 20º 20' 28.55' E

The water depth at the site is 388 metres.

The plan is to start drilling in January 2012 with an estimated duration of 49 days.

Aker Barents is a so-called 6th generation semi-submersible drilling rig, built for demanding drilling operations at water depths up to 3000 m and in Arctic environments. The rig was built by Aker Solutions at the Aker Stord shipyard in Norway and was delivered as a new rig in 2009.
