Aker Spitsbergen

StatoilHydro has been granted consent to use the mobile facility Aker Spitsbergen to plugback a well on the Åsgard field.

The purpose of the operations is to permanently plug exploration well 6506/12-8 (Smørbukk Sør).

StatoilHydro has a five-year contract period with Aker Spitsbergen. The operation is scheduled with a budgeted duration of 26 days for the plugging of Smørbukk. Start-up will be in September 2009.

Aker Spitsbergen is a mobile facility of Aker H-6e type, and is currently (along with Aker Barents) the world’s largest drilling facility.

The hull was built in Dubai, while completion and outfitting of the deck was carried out at the Aker Solutions' yard on Stord.

The facility received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in June 2009 (link), and is operated by Aker Drilling Operation AS (Aker Drilling).
