Samsung Heavy Industries has awarded TMC Compressors (TMC) a contract to deliver a marine compressed air system to a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) the South Korean yard is building for Höegh LNG.

Under the contract, international compressor supplier TMC will deliver a complete marine compressed air system consisting of 2 x 44 kW service air compressors and 2 x 44 kW control air compressors. The contract value is undisclosed.

The compressed air system will be utilised at a newbuild 170,000 cubic metre FSRU, which is scheduled for delivery in q2 2019. It will have a regasification capacity of minimum 750 million cubic feet per day.

TMC’s contract with Samsung Heavy Industries also includes options to deliver similar compressed air systems to three additional FSRUs that the shipyard may build for Höegh LNG. These vessels have scheduled delivery dates of one unit in 2019 and two units in 2020.

“Höegh LNG has one of the world’s biggest fleets of TMC compressors for FSRUs. We are very pleased that they, in cooperation with Samsung Heavy Industries, have once again selected our technology for their projects,” says Per Kjellin, managing director of TMC.

In recent weeks, TMC has signed two additional contracts to supply marine compressed air systems to newbuild FSRUs, including one with DSME, which is building a unit for BW LNG, and another with Hyundai Heavy Industries, which is building a unit for Höegh LNG.

“It seems like several players are trying to capitalise on a very favourable newbuild market to position themselves for further expansion in the FSRU segment. I believe everyone who are exposed to the newbuild segment, including TMC, are very pleased with this development,” adds Kjellin.
