INTERWELL Group – the new brand for the companies previously known as Well Technology Group (WTG), Brønnteknologiutvikling (BTU) and PI Intervention (PI) – has appointed Eirik Bergsvik as its new chief executive officer.

Mr Bergsvik has amassed broad experience in the international oil and gas service industry, and has been managing director of National Oilwell Varco Norway AS (NOVN) since 2006.

During his time in charge of the operation, NOVN became the world-leading supplier of drilling equipment to the offshore oil and gas industry.

Mr Bergsvik assumes his role as CEO of Interwell on May 9, 2011, succeeding interim post-holder Tor Olav Meberg, who returns to his original role as managing director of the Norwegian operations of Interwell Group.

Mr Bergsvik says: "I am delighted to be joining Interwell and leading the group as it builds upon the already-established reputations of WTG, BTU and PI Intervention, which are renowned names in well intervention technology development in the energy sector.

“The creation of the Interwell Group brand has brought a focus on international growth across our business operations, and we will of course continue to develop our specialist approach and deliver an even stronger product and service offering to the market."

Interwell provides some of the most advanced well barrier solutions available in the upstream oil and gas sector, and is one of the leading suppliers of bridge plugs in Norway.

It focuses on core competencies in research, development, operation and testing of tools and technologies to ensure increased hydrocarbon recovery and barrier security for global upstream energy companies.

Each of its solutions can be tailored to solve individual project requirements with very little lead time, providing a rapid response for clients. Interwell also has an in-house testing facility where it can qualify its plugs and packers to the ISO 14310 V0 standard.

In March, the firm opened a new facility in Aberdeen, Scotland and created nine new jobs in the city as it embarks on an ambitious growth strategy. Interwell has global offices in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Oman, in addition to its operations in Norway and new base in the UK.
