Xodus Group has strengthened its offshore energy and environmental teams with the appointment of Eric Houston as its environmental impact assessment (EIA) manager.

Houston is an experienced principal consultant and project manager with more than 25 years’ marine environmental consultancy experience. He was an offshore client representative for BP as part of oil spill monitoring following the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

Houston joins Xodus from Intertek where he was responsible for the delivery of EIAs and marine consents, primarily in the marine cables sector.

Houston, who will be based in the company’s Edinburgh office, says, “I’ve been aware of Xodus’ capabilities throughout my career and know the strengths of the team. As someone who has developed my career in marine environmental consultancy, I’m looking forward to working with many talented people within the company. Hopefully I can strengthen and broaden the company’s knowledge and experience of the energy value chain, from supply to demand.”

Christina Horspool, Environment Division Manager at Xodus Group adds, “Eric has had hands-on experience from one of the most influential oil events in history with the Gulf of Mexico spill. He also has experience from electricity transmission projects – one of the most important and fastest growing areas of offshore energy – as well as a vast knowledge of managing EIA projects. We are known as a trusted advisor for environmental and consenting projects and can help clients to communicate effectively with stakeholders and communities. Eric will be a real asset for the company and we’re pleased to have him on board.”

Houston has a degree in marine biology and has multi-sector experience in environmental auditing and due diligence. He has also co-ordinated and managed ISO14001 implementation.
