Petsec Energy advises that the first horizontal well on its shale oil project in Alberta, Canada has been drilled to a total measured depth of 3,754 metres (12,313 feet) and is temporarily suspended for future completion. The well was spud on 18 November 2012.

The horizontal section of the well, drilled laterally through the target zone, is approximately 1,000 metres (3,280 feet) in length. The well was extensively logged and cored, and casing was run and cemented to total depth through the horizontal section. The data gathered from the well is currently being analysed to design the completion of the well for production, operations for which are anticipated in this quarter.
