China Oilfield Services Ltd. reported that HYSY709, the firm's geotechnical vessel, has recently completed a full course of in-situ cone penetration testing (CPT) at a depth of 4,557 feet (1,389 meters) for the first time in South China Sea. Having reached a penetration depth of 109 feet (33.24 meters), the testing successfully obtained continuous transformation curve reference parameters including cone tip resistance and side friction, etc.

Deepwater sea floor in-situ CPT is one of the critical technologies for deepwater surveying. It can continuously test underwater sediments on the sea floor, providing reliable geotechnical parameters to meet requirements of design and installation of undersea structure foundations for deepwater engineering as well as geological evaluation of disasters such as deepwater submarine landslides. It provides important fundamental measures to ensure safety of deepwater development projects.

This is an inaugural operation the Company undertook, in which it deployed its own vessels and testing equipment to complete the test in deepwaters. This is not only a demonstration of the Company’s sea floor in-situ testing ability in deepwater surveying, but also another breakthrough for offshore deepwater oil development engineering in China.
