SPE North Africa Technical Conference and Exhibition gearing up

The SPE International North Africa Technical Conference and Exhibition (NATC) will take place 20–22 February 2012 at the InterContinental Citystars hotel in Cairo, Egypt. The event is organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and will be held under the patronage of Eng. Abdulla Ghorab, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in Egypt. The 2010 edition of the event had 1,100 attendees from 183 companies representing 33 countries, which was a staggering 267% increase in comparison to the 2008 edition.

The Opening Ceremony will be inaugurated by Eng. Abdulla Ghorab; Alain Labastie, 2011 SPE President and Engineering Adviser, EOR Technologies, Total; Dr. Mohamed Hashem, Subsurface Technology Manager, Shell and NATC Programme Co-Chairman; and Samir Abdelmoaty, Exploration and Agreements Consultant, BP and NATC Programme Co-Chairman.

Mohamed Hashem said “NATC is coming this year in a critical time for North Africa, with the countries aspiring for a new dawn of democracy and business without corruption. The multi-disciplinary nature of the event offers a good platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and the latest technical applications to address current issues within the oil and gas industry of North Africa and meet the people’s expectations.” Samir Abdelmoaty added “The event will be a huge opportunity for delegates to rub shoulders with highly influential professionals from the region and gain insight on how political, economic, and technological conditions affect them and their organisations.”

The technical programme of the conference is robust comprising of an executive plenary session tackling the event theme of ‘Managing Hydrocarbon Resources in a Changing Environment’, five panel sessions, twenty-five technical sessions, and over 100 poster presentations. There are three one-day training courses offered as well on 19 February 2012. The exhibition will run adjacent the conference, showcasing the latest in products and services for organisations in North Africa and the Middle East.
