Maersk Oil has acquired a 20% interest in the PL435 licence from Wintershall. The licence is located between the producing Heidrun field and the Victoria discovery near the Åsgard Field Complex and contains one firm exploration well expected to spud in June 2010. If successful, a second exploration well is planned for 2011. Partners in the licence are RWE (40% and operator), Noreco (20%) and Edison (20%).
'This is quality acreage and an important step in our process to build material production in Norway' says Åke Hesselbom, Managing Director of Maersk Oil in Norway.
'We have a track record of maturing our exploration portfolio into commercial successes - this is also our ambition in Norway' he adds.
Maersk Oil currently has 8 licenses in Norway with an ambition for fast growth in the Norwegian sector.
