Power station planned at Mongstad-Spotlight

A coal plant in Wisconsin in the United States will be among the first in the world to have its carbon-dioxide scrubbed away and stored, and the speed of America’s adoption of emissions-cleaning solvents is attracting key personnel.

The We Energies coal-fired power plant in Pleasant Prairie has paired France-based Alstom and US-based Electric Power Research Institute in a pilot installation expected to cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 90 percent.

Shell Norway carbon veteran Geir Vollsaeter is moving to the United States for the wealth of new carbon-capture projects sprouting accross the land.

Norway’s carbon capture at the Mongstad power plant in southwestern Norway faces a possible European Union curb on stately financing in late-January.

“Unfortunately, it seems (the technological lead) we so recently had is lost,” newspaper Aftenposten quoted Vollsaeter as saying. The newspaper reported Friday on the spread of carbon-capture in coal plants across America.

Alstom, meanwhile, has made great strides positioning itself in Norway while bringing the wonders of carbon-scrubbing to at least China and the Middle East, two new clean-air markets.
