BP has awarded Dutch module maker Heerema the NOK950 million ($155 million) prize of installing the main deck of a new platform at the oil company’s North Sea field, Valhall.
The new Valhall field centre deck will weigh in at 11,000 tonnes , and Heerema will have to secure its transport and positioning atop Aker Verdal’s jacket.
Valhall will receive electricity via a 292-kilometre cable to Listra, a huge savings in Norwegian carbon tax for the oil company. Old gas turbines will be closed by the Centre’s start in 2010, when 120,000 barrels a day of oil and 143 million standard cubic feet per day will be produced.
The new Valhall is seen adding 40 years to a field that started up in 1982, as well as boosting chances of "de-bottlenecking" area gas.
