Exploration in and Production from more subtle reservoir types (deepwater sands, carbonates, shale) and more complex fluids (condensates and CO2), necessitates breakthrough in science and technology. Since 2001, direction from geoscience experts in ongoing partnerships between Ikon Science, the DHI/Fluid consortium (FLAG) and the major oil companies has developed the RokDoc® platform into a leading tool for exploration through reservoir monitoring and storage workflows in all reservoir types.
In the RokDoc 5.5 release Statoil Rock Physics Model templates add a foundation for common clastic lithologies enabling users to create better rock physics models to fit their project. This release makes it easier to classify and identify, porosity and many other types of geological variations based on seismic and well data. Interpreters can now create, modify and apply better rock physics solutions in 1D, 2D, 3D and 4D models with both flexibility and power. Inversions driven by more powerful rock physics models from RokDoc deliver results much closer to the true lithology leading to better drilling decisions for our customers.
This approach is winning plaudits; an existing major E&P client thought RokDoc® to be 'the single most powerful piece of software we have in the company.'
Paul O'Brien, Director of Software commented,'This release marks a significant step forward in line with our vision of an integrated system for helping our customers optimise success through science wherever they are working. We expect our users to generate great value for their companies with the new capabilities in this release and would like to take this opportunity to thank Statoil for working with us to create the Rock Physics Templates and associated technology. RokDoc version 5.5 demonstrates continued dedication from Ikon Science to lead the next generation of software to deliver science based shared earth models. With the brand new Rock Physics Templates and the External Interface that allows customers to add their proprietary C and MatLab® code to RokDoc® the platform has taken another giant leap forward'.
